Research Pillars: Housing Security, Health, and Climate
ARCHES will advance knowledge and evidence-based solutions related to problems of housing security, climate, and health in the arid Southwest through research projects on 1) Housing Growth and Production, 2) Healthy Homes and Aging Communities, and 3) Housing Innovations for Resilience in the Arid Southwest.
ARCHES research will inform housing policy on affordability, access, and innovative design to support communities in the arid Southwest. Our guiding metaphor is the arch. We will build capacity to create community-engaged knowledge that generates evidence-based solutions to housing security, climate, and health issues by creating arches among AZ’s three regents universities – ASU, UA, and NAU – and HSI institutions across the Southwest, including UNM. ARCHES will bridge across academic research and communities, developing solutions that respond to their needs. The arch also represents our interdisciplinary and systems approach to research, which addresses interconnections among the three pillars and frames housing as an upstream solution to climate and health issues.
