Barbara Quimby is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar with the Kyl Center for Water Policy at Morrison Institute, Arizona State University. She is currently conducting research on the processes and effects of stakeholder engagement for water issues related to agriculture, as part of the Water for Agriculture project ( She earned her PhD in Geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara and San Diego State University. Specializing in the political ecology of multiscale social-ecological systems, her research interests include equity and power in natural resource governance, sustainable small-scale food systems, and environmental conservation.  Her research has examined comanagement institutions and emerging social processes for coastal fisheries management in Indonesia and Samoa.

Barbara is from Long Beach, California. She once found a 5th century Roman coin as an assistant on an archaeology dig in France but sadly was told it belonged in a museum and she wasn’t allowed to keep it.
