In a column in the West Valley View, Litchfield Elementary School District superintendent Jodi Gunning wrote that thanks to local and statewide support, the governing board approved historic teacher and staff pay increases that directly influenced Litchfield’s impressive teacher retention rate of 82 percent.

"That’s a staggering number of teachers who chose to recommit to the district," she continued, "especially considering the Morrison Institute for Public Policy study that asserts 42 percent of Arizona teachers hired in 2013 left the profession within three years."

"As we ramp up for the first day of school on August 6, our team of 1,300 is eager to welcome more than 11,000 students... bolstered by a reminder that we live in a place that values public education and the professionals who develop tomorrow’s workforce," she wrote.
