Capitol Times: Kyl Center accruing AZ water leaders

Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Arizona Capitol Times presented a feature on the Kyl Center for Water Policy at Morrison Institute as being key to resolving water rights issues that face Arizona. Kyl Center director Sarah Porter and her team have set out to determine the nature, extent and relative priority of these rights. The process is known as general stream adjudication.

Porter says the center is “uniquely positioned” to bring parties in dispute to the table for negotiations, and once these cases are completed, the state will be able to better plan for water use.

“People see that the Kyl Center could be a trusted resource,” Porter said.

The Kyl Center will be holding community meetings throughout the state to address a desire by the general public to understand more about water in Arizona, the scarcity concerns, and conserving without discouraging economic growth, Porter said.
