Mark Muro is a senior fellow and the director of policy at the Metropolitan Policy Program at the Brookings Institution, leads the program’s innovation, regional economies, and advanced industries activities. He is an expert on regional innovation systems and economic development and has published extensively on innovation topics, regional technology clusters, and regional governance. He led the creation of state advanced industries strategies for Tennessee’s automotive industry and Colorado’s space/aerospace sector and wrote the report Powering Advanced Industries, State by State. He began his public policy career at ASU’s Morrison Institute for Public Policy and co-authored with Mary Jo Waits such publications as Hits and Misses: Fast Growth in Metropolitan Phoenix and Five Shoes Waiting to Drop on Arizona’s Future. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and a master’s degree in American studies from the University of California, Berkeley.
