Welch cited for 'brilliant perspective' by UI Fellows

Nov. 3, 2009

nancy_welch.jpgMorrison Institute Associate Director Nancy Welch was commended in a UI Fellows Blog for bringing her "brilliant perspective to the conversation on topics such as the evolving role of policy organizations in Arizona, the link between social embeddedness and the university and communicating the value of universities to decision makers."

Welch spoke to the University Initiatives Forum Fellows in October.

UI "helps ASU think outside the box" by creatively using its resources and programming to maximize its potential impact on Arizona and the world at large.

UI’s top priority is the communication and conceptualization of the New American University, including: to leverage place; to transform society; to promote knowledge entrepreneurship; to conduct use-inspired research; to cultivate a focus on the individual; to promote intellectual fusion; to socially embed itself within the community; and to engage global problems.

Smoking Status Among Arizona Adults

Each year, close to half a million people in the United States die from tobacco use, making it the leading cause of preventable death. Although adult smoking in Arizona has decreased in recent decades, as of 2008, 15.9% of Arizonans reported smoking “everyday” or “some days.”
